Plane crash...

Remember my post about the plane crash with on board the Mexican Interior Minister?  Well, today, the results of the investigations of the "black box" of the plane have been made public.   And believe me, I DO BELIEVE they are real because it where US aviation officials, British specialists and Bombardier officials (Bombardier is the manufacturer of the crashed Learjet) who did the investigations…  Imagine, even the Mexican government doesn’t trust it’s own investigators!

Anyway, the plane crash was an accident due to an error of the pilot.  Errors are human, so that’s not the point…  However, the error was due to the lack of experience of both pilots!  Both pilots where licensed, but didn’t have the required training and experience to fly a Learjet 45!  That not me telling this!  These are facts, revealed by the Mexican government!

HOW THE FU%q IS THAT POSSIBLE?  Only in Mexico this can happen!  Even a small, insignificant country such as Belgium, with no terrorism to fear use military planes to fly their government officials!  Mexico, where government officials can be attacked any time, uses an old Learjet with two inexperienced (and probably underpaid and under motivated) pilots to fly around their second most important official!  Give me a break!!!

A blog about Mexico

It’s now 10 years I’m living in Mexico.  My business is here, my wife is Mexican and my son, well eh…, is also Mexican… 

I know some foreigners in Mexico who are completely “Mexicanized”.  That’s the case of George, an American who is a clone of Uncle Sam, but besides that, George is more Mexican than an enchilada…  Although George is a US citizen, he once requested a US visa with his Mexican passport… Of course, a visa to the US has been denied to him as he is a US citizen but anyway… 

Of course, that’s an extreme example, but I do know several other foreigners who have no or only a few links left with their home country.  But you also have foreigners –as me- who live here, who are 100% adapted, who probably will never return to their home countries, but do maintain strong links with their home countries.

Mexico is a quit amazing country.  A standard question Mexicans ask me when they know I’m a foreigner is “What is your opinion about our country?  Do you like it?”  And my answer is very standard and diplomatic: “As whatever country, Mexico has its pros and contras…”    Who can not like a country where the sun shines 300 days a year, where the nicest beaches of the world are only a few hours drive away, where the people makes you feel home, where people do not worry to much, where your Euros or Dollars buys double as much  as back home?  Everybody can.  At least I can :-)  But unfortunately, there is also a darker side on Mexico such as security issues, ignorance in large parts of the society (with all the consequences of it) and inefficiency both in government and private owned enterprise. 

With this blog I want share my thoughts about Mexico, maintain you up dated about what’s happening here and share with you some parts of my life in Mexico.  But I also hope that Mexicans read this blog, as I hope this blog becomes an interesting but funny source of information about Mexico seen from another angle.
